I just love saying it, and I love the way it sounds - poopies! In Spanish a U has the sound of the American English OO (as in moon, soon, croon). So puppies, said by a Spanish speaker comes out sounding like poopies!
So I'm sitting here in front of the computer answering emails, and checking facebook, with the TV on to the Emmy Awards.I can't believe how out of touch we are with current American TV. We have Cablemas TV service which gives us quite a few American TV shows; Albeit most are at least a year behind.
I actually had to verify the difference between bigot and racist -according to Joncey via wikiAnswers A racist is someone who believes in the superiority of one race over another, or who acts differently (usually negatively) towards a person or a group of people because of their race. A bigot is a blinkered, narrow-minded person, usually also very intolerant and unable to see anyone else's point of view. People can be bigoted about things that have nothing to do with race, for example, religion or sexual orientation.
It's the little things that mean so much. Way back when I lived in Coloado I had a Downy fabric softener ball. For whatever reason when packing to move MEXICO it went into the I don't need to pack this pile!
William Lawson, aka The Neurotic Foreigner posts at Lawsons Yucatan, he has several blogs all under this one site so poke around and see what's there!Lawson recently posted a blog about a 2 year old experience he had with Allianz Insurance. So just which is it by the way?
Well we managed to be up into the wee hours of the morning to observe the Perseids meteor shower. But it was earlier in the evening that we were able to observe the crescent moon along with Saturn, Mars, and Venus. Pretty phenominal.
Dramamine? Check. Biodegradable sunblock?
I've been looking at old baby pics of Max recently, fondly remembering the days when he hadn't yet begun to talk. Pining for those days actually. Yearning.
Mission: ESCAPE to the beach in Tulum Work, kid, house, work, kid, house, work, kid, house. Everybody knows that story and everybody needs a getaway sometimes. I had the chance to get outta Dodge last weekend with my dear friend Lisa to visit Heather down in Tulum at the Casa de las Olas and I jumped at the opportunity.
Summertime and the living is easy. Easy-ish. I like the longer days and the heat (yeah, call me crazy) and seeing friends in Canada and the US wearing shorts and having BBQs in their Facebook albums.
Beach house Tulum, beach house Tulum, beach house Tulum...
Max is growing up, enough so that I feel comfortable letting him use the "big person" camera without me having a panic attack every time he touches it. I decided to take him out for a little photography project in the neighbourhood to see what we could see. I told him to take pictures of whatever he thought was "photo-worthy" (this was quickly followed by a vocabulary lesson on the word "worthy").
I have lived in a time of women and I have been blessed with the education of women that not only are we the equals of men but that in may ways we are their superiors. We do things that men cannot. We literally take things from our own bodies and create a new creature.
Just as I love Monday's as the start to a fresh new week, I love the start of a new school year. Especially this year. It is sort of like a family new year's opportunity.
Okay. so I literally dropped off the planet for a while. I took my niece and nephews back to San Francisco.
Okay. So I got all the kids to San Francsico after another very uncofortable night on the Mexico City airport floor. Once we got to San Francsico no one picked us up at the airport so we took the Bart and then a cab.
Last night was the last night that my family was going to be with us and I had the idea a while back of doing a birthday party to celebrate all the kids birthdays that we did not get to celebrate together. the kids picked out what they wanted for dinner- bbq chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and salad. Dinner was great.
My niece and nephews are back from central Mexico and I am so glad. I know I have made some side bars about how hard and crazy it is - and while all that is true- I love it. These kids are great and so sweet.
As some of you might already know, I am/was an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. And I know that some of you are currently struggling with your Spanish. I'm not sure if I am capable of writing frequent Spanish lessons, with detailed explanations on the proper use of Spanish grammar.
I've mentioned before that there is a HUGE empty lot next to and behind my house that is home to a bunch of rats, mice and other varmint. This morning, as I was cleaning house, I was startled by a loud banging noise. I glanced out of my front door to find a group of my neighbors and the owners of the empty lot, banging on the big, black door that guards the empty field.
Just when you thought it was safe to go to the store...
Today started like any other day...
We survived the first day of school! I still can't get over the fact that my eldest is an 8th grader and will be a TEENAGER in a couple of months.Nick's now in the 5th grade and Ashley is in 3rd.
I've had 6 weeks to prepare for this day.I spent the better part of this weekend shopping for backpacks, shoes, uniforms and an insane amount of school supplies. All 4 kiddies got a haircut.
