Sprawling acrross both banks of the mighty Agusan River is the 315.6 square miles of Butuan?s territorial land mass.
The other day at a party I was playing with one of the kids and noticed that his teeth had large black marks in between each tooth (not the picture above). I asked my brother-in-law about it and he told me the kid was, "Just at that age". So, we all know, there is no age where kids teeth should be rotting.
I went into SM Appliance today to inquire about a clothes dryer since rainy season is starting and last year the clothes would sometimes get a funky odor to them. I asked the salesman if they had any "drying machines" which is how I have heard a bunch of people refer to them. I was trying to be cool and fit in.
It is summer. Morning to night, it is hot. Constant sweating.
Every year we take a trip to San Francisco in April/May. The trip has three purposes: 1) file US taxes & check on properties, 2) my grandma's birthday, and 3) GET OUT OF THE HEAT OF MANILA. April and May are the hottest months here and although we just got back a few days ago, I am already dying.
We drag a lot of family and friends out here to visit us. When people come from abroad, there are always a few places we are sure to visit. The first, and most obvious, is Intramuros.
After a few technical glitches, this long overdue post has finally come into public view. thanks to Lazaro, of Lazaro Cooks, who informed me that there was a problem with this post when it wasn't showing up the way it should be. This was the last dish I prepared and the post I was working on back in May before I fell ill.
As an American living overseas for close to a decade now, I've come to the stunning conclusion that the prevailing perception of American cuisine, thanks to the global proliferation of the likes of McDonald's, KFC and Burger King, has been written off as a diet of dry, bland hamburgers blanketed with orange glob that eerily bears a striking resemblance to a piece of melted orange vinyl instead of cheese, fries bathed in salt and ketchup that we happily consume in all their artery-clogging glory.I always tell my non-American that those aforementioned fast food giants and the food they serve is not an accurate representation of American cuisine, if there even is such a thing to begin with. In an attempt to answer the question Casey posed on her blog, Eating, Gardening & Living In Bulgaria, on what is American cuisine, I will have to say there is no such thing in same way that there is no such thing as "Chinese" food or "Indian" food (Devaki over at Weave A Thousand Flavors will tell you so) .
As promised in the previous post, here's the recipe for the Shiraz salad that I prepared for Father's Day. This is probably the easiest and quickest Persian recipe you'll ever encounter. This was the very first Persian dish my mom learned to make.
Herbed Fish Stew (Khoresh-e ghalieh mahi) This is one of my favorite Persian dishes and my Dad's as well.. It may not look too appealing, but it's just teeming with flavor and aroma.
With a hectic week at work, it's been a consistent diet of takeout food and I've obviously been lagging on both my blog posts and visits to my favorite blogs. So, to those blogs/bloggers that I visit regularly (and you know who you are), I have not forgotten any of you. Life just sort of has been getting in the way lately.
Minced chicken salad in red cabbage cups. With the unrelenting hotter-than-normally-hot weather that currently seems to be sweeping most of the Southeast Asian region, coming up with light dishes that require a minimal amount of time in front of the stove has been quite a challege. Since I live in small condo unit, I have no desire to generate any kind of heat as much as possible.
Here are some photos I took yesterday of our home, "The Compound", in Guimaras province in the Philippines. The pictures show a front view of our home that has been recently freshly painted outside and inside, and also a side view.
What Does Brash Mean to You? Well, here's one meaning of brash that I ran across. "Offensively bold; ?
Since I retired to the Philippines shortly over a year ago, one of the simple pleasures I enjoy is a cup of fresh ground coffee in the morning. Whenever I make a trip to nearby Iloilo on the pump boat, I make sure to check out the latest flavors of fresh ground coffee available. Hey!
Excitement Level High at "The Compound!" I know. I know.

My wife Flor and I we both like nice things in and around our house. We like nice decoration inside but also outside in the garden. Some time ago we were driving through a subdivision somewhere in Cavite when we suddenly spotted a wall around a house which was very nice decorated.
When a car doesn’t run anymore it will be repaired (fixed) so it can be used again. The same goes for tricycles, jeepneys and everything else on wheels with an engine. The problem however is that the owner sometimes doesn’t have enough funds to have the vehicle repaired at once.
The Philippines is a religious country. Most of them are Christians. On the internet I found a funny warning / anouncement.
This joke I have found on the Internet. Gloria Arroyo, George Bush and Hu Jintao all die and go to hell. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for.
Many Filipinos and their families like to spend a day in one of the many malls in the Philippines. They prefer the weekend to do so. Saturdays and Sundays are the top days in every mall.
Every Saturday morning until 2 PM a market is held in Salcedo Village, Makati. The market is known among many foreigners, especially those living in the area. There are several stands where one can buy fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs, fresh fish and other items.
