So I’ve managed to go from nanny to mistress in just a few short months. What on earth do I mean by that? Am I implying that I intend to sleep with your husband?
It’s not some dude I met the other day. It’s what I do now. Yes, yes, I am gainfully employed once again.
I know I’m a lucky somebody. I have been around enough families to know that I ended up with a great one. I hope I never become ungrateful and lose sight of that, either.
It’s no secret that I love animals of all sorts. I’ve yet to come across one for which I haven’t been able to find a place in my heart. Mumsy has a photo of me at about age 10 at the zoo with a twenty-five foot albino python wrapped around my neck.
Even from afar, when reading the news back home, there was an amusing trend that manifested itself: eight times out of ten, the most outlandish of news stories came out of my home state. I fly my weirdo flag pretty high and I’ll be the first to admit I hail from a state full [..
I think it’s fair to say that I have seen and experienced a variety of ways to live. I have always been one who just wasn’t content to stay put or keep things as they were. I come by my gypsy blood honestly as well as that itch I get to pack it [.
I suppose that death is seldom amusing unless you find yourself in the unlikely situation of spending the weekend with a cadaver named Bernie. Having said that (and rest assured that there are no stiffs named Bernie in what I am about to relate) death popped by our neighbourhood recently and took on - how shall I put this? - an almost carnival-like atmosphere.
It was 1963, and Jason's argonauts were grumbling about their crap voyage aboard the Argos which included lengthy sword battles against harpies, a giant bronze - well, bronze giant, a hydra (a 7-headed water beast-thingy), and if that's not well enough, a skeleton army - or rather an army of skeletons.Forty-seven years later, I feel for those argonauts. Not so much for Jason, because their was a kingship at the end of his quest for the Golden Fleece (poor sheep), but those poor argonauts got the short end of the stick.
To conclude...
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time: Part the First(with apologies to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?""To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.""The dog did nothing in the night-time.
Celeste (the Dog) has been popping up on this blog a fair amount recently, and although I don't begrudge her her 15 minutes of fame, she probably should be making better use of her time by acquainting herself with the plight of most dogs Iraq. Or at least the dogs in Baghdad.Yes, at the same time that she's been with us - some three months - 58,000 stray dogs have been shot in the country's capital.
Spain: 1 The Netherlands: 0Well, thank the gods that nonsense is finally over and that Spain won the World Cup (¡Podemos!). Life would've been awfully unbearable otherwise.
For the moment, our morning keep fit ritual has had to change a little bit due to my poorly shins - which are slowly getting better but are still niggling. Barry has carried on following his running programme and I wanted to keep up with the pattern of getting out of bed early and leaving the house just then I don't return to complete laziness. So, when I was sulking and feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't go running, I had a brainwave.
Did someone tell the Fethiye weather that it was September 1st? September and October are fantastic times of year to be in Fethiye and for the last three years, we've always managed to get stuck in a bar as the first, almighty downpour of the season comes. Yesterday, we were walking down Çal?
After 12 years of umming and ahhing about whether I could handle a visit to the hamam, I finally made it to one on Saturday. I went in a sauna in a gym many moons ago and had to leave straight away because I just hated the heat, so I always thought, 'If I pay my cash and then have to leave because the heat is too much, and everyone will see me and it'll be a big fuss, and I'm not keen on massages anyway..
In the UK, today is August Bank Holiday Monday - except in Scotland, according to my calendar. Why is that then? Anyway, 30th August is also Zafer Bayram in Turkey.
Fethiye has a working harbour where fishermen bring the daily catch in at all times of the day from the previous night's fishing. You'd be very unlucky to walk along the promenade and not see some evidence of this.Local Fethiye fishermen preparing their boat in Fethiye harbourThe larger fishing boats that dock along the new part of the harbour leave Fethiye bay on an almost nightly basis and return the following day.
We're pondering, pondering. The new part of Fethiye harbour now has quite a few very modern looking wooden and steel buildings. Apart from the offices of the company who built them, these buildings cureently stand empty, except for one.
